One Planet Products is a free web service
designed to help make sustainableconstruction easy for the UK house building sector. We provide expert commentary and summaries of our research, targeted at housing assocations, architects, developers, construction companies and others. Our information is topical and accurate, and helps users to purchase and specify green construction products and build knowledge in sustainability.
What we do
We have a wealth of experience in the sustainable building sector, understanding how to interpret the conflicting information provided by suppliers and cut through the greenwash to make sense of it all. We undertake research on building products and materials, considering in-use energy and water consumption, embodied carbon, toxicity and waste impacts in a holistic manner. We publish our research on this site in range reviews, commentary on new products and topical issues. We are an independent charity, ensuring that our research remains objective and can be trusted in an increasingly confusing marketplace.
Why we need One Planet Products
Housing currently produces around one third of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions, and the government would like to see 240,000 new homes built every year. Although new homes are becoming ever more efficient heading towards the zero carbon by 2016 target, this does not reduce the carbon emissions caused by production of building materials (which has been estimated at 56 tonnes per home). By encouraging the use of low-carbon materials, resource efficiency and innovative water and energy saving products, One Planet Products aims to reduce the environmental impact of the UK housing stock.
Who we are
One Planet Products was launched by BioRegional, an entrepreneurial charity which initiates and delivers practical solutions that help us to live within a fair share of the earth’s resources – what we call one planet living. We work in partnership with organisations around the world, and we help others to achieve sustainability through consultancy, education and informing policy.
