Mark Watson, Executive Director, One Planet Products
Mark is currently studying for a MSc Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies at the Centre for Alternative Technology and the IEMA exams at the University of Bath. Before joining One Planet Products Mark was the director of a successful internet business with a turnover of £1m and 12 staff. Additionally Mark was elected to Croydon Council in 2002 and served as the Cabinet Member for Equalities and Community Partnerships and the e-government champion.Previously Mark was the Communications Director at Stonewall, one of the UKs leading equality and lobbying organisations and, in 1993, was instrumental in founding the charity UKLGIG.
Mark has a undergraduate degree in environmental geography and spent three months in Dhaka, Bangladesh studying the effects of poverty on social exclusion and the environment. After graduating he led a six month expedition to the Amazon to consider the environmental and climatic consequences of rainforest destruction. Before going to university Mark spent one year working voluntarily in the township of Alexandria in South Africa. Mark is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and in 2003 he climbed Kilimanjaro to raise money for HIV / AIDS projects in Africa.
Nicole Lazarus, B Eng, Director, One Planet Products
Nicole is a sustainability consultant with a civil engineering background. Graduating from Leeds University (1st class), she spent 5 years in design consultancy, and then 2 years as a site engineer for Taylor Woodrow on the Jubilee Line extension at London Bridge. In 1997, Nicole was employed by BioRegional to help bring about the BedZED project. For the next 6 years Nicole led the ZED programme within BioRegional and during that time, the project team secured a developer for BedZED, secured the land and planning permission and built the scheme. Nicole now lives at BedZED as well as working there.
Nicole was the author of two publications, the BedZED Construction Materials Report and the Carbon Neutral Toolkit. These report on building material choices, design measures, build costs and monitoring results from the first year of occupation. In 2002, Nicole launched BioRegional Reclaimed, a company specialising in sourcing, supplying and promoting reclaimed materials to construction projects. Nicole now leads the sustainable construction materials programme at BioRegional and implementation of our One Planet Living communities development programme within the UK.
Jude Hassall, Supplier Manager, One Planet Products
Jude joined Bioregional in November 2007 as the Supplier Manager for One Planet Products. Jude previously worked at the Energy Savings Trust running the managed housing programme which worked with housing developers and local authorities to try and encourage the uptake of energy saving measures in this sector. Prior to this Jude worked at Defra within the business and environment team and wrote the governments guide for the top 100 businesses on how to measure their greenhouse gas emissions. Jude has an Msc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London. In her other life she lives with her three children in Ealing.
Tom Hill, Product Specialist, One Planet Products
Tom undertook his undergraduate BSc in Environment, Ecology and Economics at the University of York. Working with the Stockholm Environment Institute Tom's BSc dissertation involved examining the links between socio-economic status and the ecological footprint. He is currently in the process of completing an MA in Environment, Policy and Society at the Open University where his primary interest lies in the relationship between sustainability and values. Tom joins BioRegional after a period at EcoConsulting where he worked as a Sustainable Design Consultant.
Naomi Durkan, Membership Manager, One Planet Products
Naomi joined One Planet Products in 2007 whilst completing her postgraduate diploma in Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies at the University of East London and The Centre for Alternative Technology. Throughout the course, she developed a particular interest in urban sustainability and greening the built environment. Naomi also has an undergraduate degree in English, Philosophy and Classics from Durham University.
